This autoimmune condition is nicknamed "the great imitator" because it mimics so many other diseases. It involves Type III hypersensitivity with immune complex deposition, and patients classically present with a facial rash that looks like a butterfly landed on their nose. It can attack the joints, kidneys, skin, and brain.
